Elizabeth City Real Estate

The History

Elizabeth, New Jersey, is one of the oldest cities in the state, founded in 1664 and originally known as Elizabethtown. It was the first capital of New Jersey and played an important role during the American Revolutionary War, serving as a strategic location due to its proximity to New York Harbor. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Elizabeth grew into a major industrial center, with manufacturing and shipping driving economic growth. Its waterfront location helped establish it as a key transportation and shipping hub, a role it continues to hold today with the presence of Port Newark–Elizabeth Marine Terminal, one of the largest ports on the East Coast.
